Moses Thompson financial and legal documents, 1855-1875.

This collection contains primarily financial and legal documents pertaining to Moses Thompson's administration of the estate of John Fulton, including eleven executions of debt and receipts as well as two records of appraisal of the estate. Documents are signed by various individuals, including Wm. Thompson, Jr., and Wm. Sellers (both appraisers), J.P. Gephart (Register of the Probate of Wills), W.C. Wagoner (Prothonotary in Huntingdon County), Samuel Fulton, and Catharine Fulton. Three of the items are bank checks written to Mrs. Susan Hunter (two from Thompson, M'Farlane & Co., Bankers) and Cyrus W. Hunter (one from the Banking House of John I. Thompson & Co.), all three signed by Moses Thompson. This collection provides insight into the Centre County Probate Court. Also includes an account book, 1855-1868, documenting Thompson's fiduciary responsibilities for various orphans and minors, as well as accounts for mill dams, land for Martha Furnace, and Stone Mill Potters Bank.

Moses Thompson (1810-1891), proprietor of Centre Furnace in Centre County, Pennsylvania, was born in Centre County. His parents, General John Thompson and Elizabeth McFarlane Thompson moved to Centre County in 1793 from Mifflin County, Pennsylvania, and settled at Slab Cabin Creek in 1809, where Moses Thompson was born 25 March 1810.
